Recent News

Our very own Jim Berrios was once again a speaker at the recent Communities in Schools of Kent Annual Breakfast and helped raise over $14,000. Which is great feat considering todays economy. Also featured was a Kent Phoenix Academy student who has overcome true adversity. She is back on the right track working towards a successful future. Jim is also a board member of the Kent School District.

"Way to go Jim!"

About the Kiwanis Club of Kent

Est. 1930

The Kiwanis Club of Kent is the oldest of the three Kiwanis Clubs in the Kent, WA area. Our goal and objective is to help children in our community and throughout the world. Every Year we have a variety of events we are committed to making a success and we are always adding new ones. Our members are made up of a variety of people from all different type of backgrounds but the one thing we all have in common is our desire and drive to make this community and world a better place for children. So ladies and gentlemen, welcome to The Kiwanis Club of Kent, where " it's an honor, it's a privilege, it's a pleasure, IT'S JUST GRRREAT TO BE A KIWANIAN!!!"

  • Kiwanis was founded in Detroit, Michigan, on January 21, 1915.
  • In the early years, Kiwanis clubs focused on business networking, but even then, members were serving the needs of the poor.
  • By 1919, the organization had changed its focus from business to service.
  • Kiwanis became an international organization in 1916 with the organization of the Kiwanis Club of Hamilton, Ontario.
  • Kiwanis limited its membership to the United States and Canada until 1962 when worldwide expansion was approved.
  • Until 1987, Kiwanis was a male-only organization. But after years of debate and growing support, women's membership was received overwhelmingly.
