Week of Oct. 26th
Fellow Kiwanians:
Here is the latest on what
is happening in YOUR club! First, get out those calendars
because we have some days to mark:
November 7:
Veterans Parade in Auburn starting at 11am. (let me know
if you want more info on this);
November 14:
Meridian Club Casino Night;
December 9:
Division Christmas Party at Bittersweet Restaurant;
February 27:
Our Clubs? 2nd annual Comedy Night;
May 22: The
City wide Cleanup day.
More dates are to follow.
One thing that has come up is the Meridian Club Casino Night.
This is a great event but to sweeten the pot a little more, they
have agreed to match ticket for ticket to our next event, up to
10 tickets. We just did this with the Sunrise Rotary and
had enough people that they will buy at least 10 tickets to our
next event. I need 9 more people who will join me at this
event that will, in return, benefit our club as well.
Please e-mail me and let me know if you are in. Tickets
are $30 and then you buy scrip when you get to the event to play
with. I think it ranges from $25 to $100 which gets you a
lot of money to actually play with. There is also finger
foods, a silent auction, and free champagne. This is there
one fundraiser for the year so it is good to help our fellow
Kent members. I will be disappointed if 9 of you don?t
join me.
Now, what you missed last
week. We had a great speaker, Mike Warfel, who gave some
updates and good information regarding the big bad nasty we call
the Howard Hanson Dam (I would add 1 more letter to the last
word but that might be inappropriate). Basically, the
repairs that can be done are done, so start crossing your
fingers and knock on wood. He also gave some good advice
on preparedness. If you live in the valley, you should
have 3 days supplies (food, water, clothing, etc). Also,
reach out to family and friends for a place to stay in case your
house could be affected. He also gave 5 simple safety
tips: Be aware, Be prepared, Stay informed, Take action, and Get
involved. Follow these and you can minimize the damages
you may sustain, and, more importantly, avoid any personal
safety risk. Last, pay attention to the warning system.
They come in four phases. Phase 1 ? Be aware something
might happen; Phase 2 ? a good probability flooding will occur;
Phase 3 ? there is/are specific areas that face a moderate
threat; and Phase 4 ? Run for your life!!!!!!
So get ready and if you know
anyone that is affected pass this information along.
With that being said,
continue to collect baby foods and clothes for our current
drive. Also, the list for speakers is getting filled up,
make sure your name is down. The latest is attached.
This week we have another
exciting speaker so make sure you attend and we all look forward
to seeing each other.
