Recent News

Our very own Jim Berrios was once again a speaker at the recent Communities in Schools of Kent Annual Breakfast and helped raise over $14,000. Which is great feat considering todays economy. Also featured was a Kent Phoenix Academy student who has overcome true adversity. She is back on the right track working towards a successful future. Jim is also a board member of the Kent School District.

"Way to go Jim!"

Message from the President of The Kiwanis Club of Kent

Welcome to the web site for The Kiwanis Club of Kent!  I’m glad you came to visit our web site and find out a little more about our FANTASTIC Kiwanis Club!  Originally chartered in 1930, we are proud of our heritage as a Kiwanis Club in Division 32 of the Pacific Northwest District.  Our year has been an amazing one thus far.  I am confident that our club will continue to make it one of the best yet in the history of this club -- and there have been many great years for The Kiwanis Club of Kent.

The message this year has been "Going from Good to GREAT!" Although our club is already, "GREAT!"  There's always room for improvement. This year our club is once again sponsoring the start of another Kiwanis Club in Kent, "The AKTION Club."

"Where development has no disability"

The Aktion Club is the newest member club of the Kiwanis family. An Aktion Club is a community based service group composed of adult citizens who live with disabilities.

Aktion Club members strive to return to their communities the benefits, help, and caring they have received, while at the same time developing important skills.

Members receive many benefits from participating in Aktion Club.

Included are:
• Participating in the active life of the community.
• Contributing to the community.
• Developing mechanical, creative, and intellectual
  abilities.
• Developing social interaction awareness.
• Improving self-esteem.
• Developing leadership skills.
• Achieving personal and service goals.

We're in the beginning stages with Aktion Club but with our drive, ambition and support in the community "the main club" will once again lay the stepping stones for another outstanding community based service organization whose goal is to improve the life of it's citizens, club members and others in our community.

"This club is just like us"

I encourage you to check out our Membership Page  – there are probably people there that you know!  Our members range in age from 19 – 85 years young, and enjoy occupations across a wide spectrum.  We welcome all community members who want to help us in our quest of community service – whether they have a little or an abundance of time to share.

Our Service Projects page provides you with just a hint of what this club and its members do to improve the lives of our fellow community members – from its infants to our seniors!  Proceeds from our fundraisers  – 100% of them – are used to support the service projects that we so heartily engage in.  From SCKAC dances and special event nights for our developmentally disabled populations, to reading programs and Bridge Building at Kent Elementary and our local Head Start classrooms, and from our annual Essay Contest  for middle school students to our KISSES (Kiwanians In Support of Students in Elementary School) Program  we are truly making a difference!

We are especially proud of our Sponsored Youth programs – the Kentlake Key Club and Kent Meridian Key Club provide incredible support to the community through their leadership and community service projects.  Their advisors -- Dawn Stevenson and Henrik Sortun (Kent Meridian), and Susan Johnson (Kentlake) are helping lead these high school students to positive, bright futures!   Feel free to contact them with any questions you might have regarding Key Club.

Our meetings are held every Friday at 12:00 noon at The Golden Steer Steak & Rib House, 23826 - 104th Avenue SE, Kent, WA  98030.  Please join us and find out how much you’d enjoy being a member of this wonderful, worldwide service organization known as Kiwanis International

I look forward to meeting you at a future Kiwanis Club of Kent meetings.  Thank you for helping go from good to great.

Did you know?

2007 marked 20 years women have been able to be members of Kiwanis. Originally, Kiwanis was exclusively a men's club, as were many of the service clubs, but it was  realized the value and contributions women make throughout the world. This was the best decision Kiwanis ever made. Thank you ladies!
